One Great Evening for One Great Cause

By: Dr. Anthony S. Tricoli..... One of the nicest events held in our region is the Annual Dinner and Wine Tasting event hosted by the Boys & Girls Club. For the past two years, the Annual Dinner and Wine Tasting event has been held at the Springbrook Country Club in Niota, McMinn County. There are many reasons that this is such a wonderful event: 1)The cause is a great one – the funds are used to support children to attend the Club, especially those children who have no financial means of doing so; 2) The dinner is wonderful and is prepared by the chef at the Springbrook Country Club; 3) The wine list is atypical of anything found in our region; 4) The company around the table is warm and welcoming and typically includes our neighbors and friends from Monroe, McMinn and Louden Counties. It can’t get much better than this! “I attended the Dinner and Wine Tasting event in 2014 for the first time and enjoyed it so much that I purchased eight tickets for the 2015 event; we had a great time, and we loved that we were supporting our local Boys and Girls Club. I’m looking forward to attending this event again and again, and I love supporting our local children,” said Doug Warren. “I am a huge fan of anything which supports our local children, and for me this is a capstone event,” said Pamela Clark owner of Clark State Farm Insurance in Sweetwater. “The dinner was superb, and the selection of wine was outstanding. I am excited that the Boys and Girls Club will be hosting a similar event in Vonore in the fall. This way, our friends who live in the northern part of our County can enjoy a wonderful evening too!” This year’s meal included: Beef Wellington, Jalapeno Stuffed Potato, Broccoli with Cheese Sauce, Strawberry Feta Salad, and a scrumptious Bread Pudding. The selection of red and white wine came to us from the cellar of Dr. Pete Stimpson and was appropriately named “A Tasting of the Piedmont in Italy” and included: Bellavista Franiacorta–Sparkling, Vietti Roero Arneis–White, Laghibellina Gavi–White, Elio Perrone Barbera–Red, Castello di Verundo Barbaresco–Red, and Chateau Sudiraut Sauterne–Dessert. Longtime board member, Dr. Chis Bowman has led the development and organization of this event for the past two years, and he also MC’s the event. Dr. Pete Stimpson has graciously donated case upon case of delicious wine, and he delivers a presentation about each wine placed before our guests. Then Dr. Ken Kozawa along with Dr. Chris Bowman pitch in with kind and generous donations to assure that the funds earned from ticket sales stay with the Club and support our children. “In all, approximately 90 local residents enjoyed a fabulous evening of food, wine and friendship all in the name of supporting children, it was a wonderful evening,” said Chairman of the Board Paul Willson. Dr. David Kefauver summed up the evening this way, “It warms the heart to see how much our local community cares about this Boys and Girls Club. For nearly 20 years, our challenge of raising funds here in our region has been exhausting work, but I believe it is worth every minute of our time if it means providing just one child with the opportunity to participate in the work and outcomes produced by our local Boys and Girls Club.” We couldn’t agree more with sentiments shared here by Dr. David Kefauver and all others who have been quoted in this article. If you would like to see firsthand how this Club serves our local children please give Dr. Anthony Tricoli a call (423) 442-6770 and let’s arrange a Tour-The-Club date; we just know our children would love to meet you!
