By: Paul Willson, Chairman of the Board...... There are still a few more slots available if you are interested in having your children enjoy a wonderful summer, filled with fun, exercise, and educational activities, just give us a call at (423) 442-6770. We are so very fortunate to have hired two outstanding Unit Directors: Sheila Lynn at our Tellico Plains Club and Brittany Carson at our Sweetwater Club; both have years of experience in leadership positions with our Boys & Girl Club and are highly qualified and can’t wait to get their hands into these new leadership roles. Shelia Lynn said, “With 8 years of experience in the organization & being from the Tellico area, I feel like I can help with the transition at the Tellico Unit & provide an exciting summer. I am looking forward to serving our children this summer at the Tellico Club. Our operation hours are 6 am to 5:30 pm the number to reach me at is (423)253-2434.” Brittany Carson, said “I have been a program staff member for 6 years and look forward to this new journey as Sweetwater Unit Director. Educational & Character Building activities are already in the planning for a great summer program. Our hours of operation are 6:30 am to 6:00 pm and the number to reach me is 423-337-0320.” We encourage all of our staff members to continually improve their skills so that as opportunities for promotion become available they are ready to move on to those new challenges. Our Leadership Team at the Club is as strong as ever, our main office staff, unit directors and support staff teams are highly capable and care deeply about our local children. The Club’s Board of Directors is absolutely committed to meeting the needs of our children. The reports prepared by the CEO and his staff are the best we’ve ever received, and are providing us with the type of data that the board needs to make good decisions. The Board is now receiving all of the information it has requested, and this makes it much easier to provide the CEO and his staff with direction. The CEO has followed the direction of the Board on all fronts, and the relationship between the Board and CEO is indeed outstanding. As I have shared in prior communication, we are fortunate to have the services of Dr. Tricoli as our CEO. When our previous Club Director stepped down the Board asked one of its own Board Members (Dr. Anthony Tricoli) to step into the role for a short period. However, after we saw what he could do for our Club, the Board voted unanimously to ask him to stay on; and fortunately he agreed. We realize that the total of his talents will draw interest from other organizations, and we understood that going into this partnership with him, but we feel fortunate that he is with us at this time. Funding for the Club generally comes from two sources, grants and local donations. We have a couple of large grants that are timing out over the next 6 months. The Club’s grant manager, Danny Gardner, is working daily to find new grants. Of course, if those grants do not come in, we will be required to generate more local funds in order to maintain our current level of service. So we encourage anyone who loves children as much as we do to come and Take-a-Tour of the Club and see for yourself what wonderful activities are being offered for children right here in Monroe County.
