Torch Club

Developed to address the needs of young people ages 11 to 13, the Torch Club is chartered annually through Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Torch Club offers positive experiences geared towards these young people, who are not yet "real" teens but are too “old” to comfortably interact with children ages 5 to 10.

The critical role of the Torch Club is to mentor and empower each member to develop a sense of responsibility and appreciation for citizenship and leadership. The Torch Club uses educational and social skill development to help build confidence and self-reliance in these character-defining years.

Torch Club incorporates members’ suggestions, national programs and special events, offering members a strong array of activities in these four program areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness, and social recreation. Below are some examples of what our Torch Clubs do:

  • Making greeting cards for senior citizens, children’s hospitals and those deployed
  • Helping with homework and reading
  • Organizing community clean-ups
  • Conducting Club orientation activities (e.g. tours of the Club, speeches and presentations)
  • Serving as ambassadors for the Club
  • Conducting fundraisers (e.g. Lemonade Stand, Pie-N-Face)
  • Visiting Museums
  • Inviting speakers to talk about important social issues and interviewing them
  • Learn how to make something in arts and crafts
  • Hiking
  • Attend a cooking class
  • Conducting relay races, roller skating, hiking trips, jump rope competitions
  • Hosting Special Parties
  • Etiquette programs, dinners, cultural events (plays, classical music and ballet performances)
